Who Builds Berley

Built right, by people who care, with tech that works.

Berley is short for Kimberley. It's a small crew, and every board goes through the hands of people who ride.

Jody Willcock

Founder · Kimberley, BC

Jody grew up in Kimberley and still builds there. He never set out to build a board to sell. He set out to build a board that did what he wanted it to do. "I play cars, I play skateboards. I like to create."

When he couldn't afford a CNC machine, he built his own, to his own specs. It still cuts every Berley board. HollowTech came out of the BC downhill and street luge scene, where a board that flexes or breaks at the wrong moment isn't an option. He went through prototype after prototype before he made one worth selling, and his first production board was a hollow longboard made with Landyachtz. The Berley street luge, developed with West Sampson, came out of that same work.

He's been bending tricky shapes for well over a decade, from race boards to one-off custom builds. He'd rather not own a phone and wants nothing to do with social media, but he's usually the one behind the camera. Most of the shop footage you see from us is his.

His story is in the downhill documentary Highway Gospel.

Ryan Rausch

Brand & Marketing · Amsterdam

Ryan grew up between Kimberley and Alberta, spending weekends at his family's tire shop at the bottom of the hill in Kimberley. He went on to coach snowboarding at the elite level across four Olympic cycles, in Canada, China and the Netherlands.

Along the way he did R&D and testing for brands like Battalion and Rome, and designed his own snowboard shape. He took up skateboarding in his 40s, rode a Berley, felt the difference and joined Jody in 2026. He now runs the brand, the website and the socials from Amsterdam, and shaped the Koi-Ride from the boards he's loved most over the years.

Built in Kimberley. Ridden worldwide.
