“Twenty Years of the Sullivan Challenge” is a feature length film that documents the longest running downhill skateboard race in the world, The Sullivan Challenge.
The Sullivan Challenge occurs annually every July in Kimberley, British Columbia. Since the first legal race was held in 2002, skateboard racers from around the world have converged on this small mountain town to compete. Some come to claim the championship, some just try to make it down the track without injury, all come for the family reunion type of comradery and the festival atmosphere provided by both the skateboarders and the community at large.
The film follows race organizer, Jody Willcock, through the planning and build up to the 20th Sullivan Challenge. Jody has been the organizer behind the race since its inception and is also the owner/operator of the Berley Skate manufacturing and retail facility in Kimberley BC.
Archival footage from every Sullivan Challenge is also included, if you have been to a Sullivan Challenge in the last 20 years, you may be in this film!
Production and editing was completed by Kimberley musician Kevin Jock Honeyman who also provided the film score.
The film will premiere in celebration of Canada Day at the Kimberley Conference Center on July 1, 2022. Tickets are available at Berley Skate in Kimberley or online at www.berleyskate.com.
A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Bob McWhinnie fund for upgrades to the community skate park.
